The Next Chapter in Texas History
Meet Your New Texas House of Representatives
Last week, history was made in Texas. When the Hands Off Texas! movement was started in 2009 by the Texas Republican House Committee (TRHC), Republicans had a slim one-vote majority in the Texas House of Representatives. Two years later, now that the dust has settled from Election Day, we have 99 seats - a gain of 22. We even defeated Rep. Jim Dunnam, the chairman of the House Democratic Caucus.
We knew we would gain ground, but no one saw THIS coming. Texans sent an overwhelmingly loud and clear message to President Obama and the Democratic Party to keep their HANDS OFF TEXAS by electing the highest number of Republicans to the Texas House in state history. And on top of that, we won every statewide seat and picked up three additional seats in the United States Congress. Election Night could not have gone better.
Here's a breakdown of what happened and the list of your new members of the Texas House of Representatives:
NOVEMBER 4, 2008: 76-74
Republicans maintain control of the Texas House, but with a slim one-vote majority.
NOVEMBER 6, 2009: 77-73
Rep. Chuck Hopson, former Democrat from House District 11, joins the Republican Party.
NOVEMBER 2, 2010: 99-51
Republicans win their most overwhelming victory in the Texas House in state history, increasing our majority by a record 22 seats.
